Leach Propels Women’s Soccer Past Lasell, 1-0

NASHUA, N.H. – Sophomore forward Maya Leach fired in a shot from outside the box with 1:41 left in regulation to secure a 1-0 victory for the Rivier women's soccer team over Lasell on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

The decision solidified a GNAC Quarterfinals home game for the Raiders, who enter the conference postseason tournament with the third seed for the first time since 1998.

The victory also marked the first for Raiders over Lasell in 18 all-time matchups dating back to the 2007 campaign. Rivier improved to a 9-5-6 (9-2-4 GNAC) record while the Lasers fell to 9-5-3 (8-4-3 GNAC).

Rivier outshot Lasell, 9-3, in the opening 45 minutes, but could not put one past the Lasers' keeper.

The Raiders' 10th and final shot of the second half came off Leach's right boot and into the goal to provide Riv with its ninth win of the campaign.

Bri Nugent recorded three saves in her 10th shutout of the season.

The Raiders will now play host to the sixth-seeded Albertus Magnus Falcons in the GNAC Quarterfinals round on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Merrill Field. The two squads met in the GNAC opener back on Sept. 7 and drew 3-3.
