Wright's Stunner Lifts Women's Soccer Over Regis (Mass.), 1-0

Weston, Mass. – The Rivier women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Regis (Mass.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday night at Regis Field

The result marked Rivier's first win over Regis since 2005. The Raiders improved to 8-4-4 (8-1-2 GNAC) while the Pride dropped to 7-6-3 (5-3-3 GNAC).

Both teams struggled to generate offense early on, as they cautiously sized each other up. The first half produced just nine total shot attempts between the two sides.

Rivier's offense came alive in the second half, firing five shots on target. The Raiders eventually found nylon in the 71st minute as graduate Darcy Wright unleashed a 30-yard strike that ricocheted off the crossbar and into the net, securing the lone goal of the match.

Junior goalkeeper Bri Nugent recorded eight saves in her sixth shutout of the season.

The Raiders return to action on Saturday Oct. 19 as they take on Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Hampshire United Day at Merrill Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
