FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Rivier women's soccer team secured its sixth straight victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, besting Dean by a score of 2-1 at the Longley Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Raiders remain undefeated against the Bulldogs, holding an all-time record of 2-0-2.
With the win, the Raiders improved to 6-3-2 (6-0-1 GNAC) while the Bulldogs fell to 2-7-1 (1-6-1 GNAC).
The Raiders opened the scoring on the brink of halftime when first-year defender Nadia Laxa played a ball from the back line into the path of junior midfielder Elisabeth Jacob. Jacob then set up first-year forward Hannah Smith who rifled a shot into the bottom left corner of the net, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs responded quickly in the second half, equalizing just three minutes in.
The Raiders kept pressing forward, ultimately finding the winning goal in the 77th minute as first-year midfielder Julia Acampora dribbled through the Bulldog midfield and played a pass to junior forward Emily Harper who curled her shot from outside the box into the top right corner to take a 2-1 lead that was never relinquished.
Rivier outshot Dean, 25-10, with 16 shots landing on target. Junior goalkeeper Bri Nugent recorded four saves in her fifth win of the season. The Raiders tallied seven corner opportunities in the triumph.
The Raiders return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 against non-conference opponent Suffolk at Merrill Field with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
