Prior to the match, the Raiders brought Team IMPACT athlete, Serafina Nicastro, on the field for the pre-game coin toss. The squad donned green t-shirts in honor of Cerebral Palsy Awareness.
This win marks the Raiders' third consecutive conference victory, keeping them undefeated in league play. With this result, Rivier improved to 3-3-2 overall (3-0-1 GNAC), while Simmons fell to 1-5-0 (1-4-0 GNAC).
After a scoreless first half, the Raiders broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute when junior midfielder Elisabeth Jacob played a ball through to first-year Hannah Smith who placed her shot into the bottom left corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
Just under three minutes later, senior midfielder Samantha Franks took advantage of a failed clearance, heading a shot over the outstretched arms of the Simmons goalkeeper to double the Raider lead and close the game out with a 2-0 victory.
Rivier outshot Simmons, 19-11, with six of those shots landing on net, compared to Simmons' three.
Junior goalkeeper Bri Nugent recorded three saves in her second shutout of the season.
The Raiders aim to build on their strong conference start as they prepare to face GNAC foe Anna Maria on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Merrill Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
