NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's soccer team snapped a 13-game winning streak for Emmanuel (Mass.) in the all-time series between both programs with a 2-1 victory over the Saints on Alumni Reunion Weekend.
The Raiders moved to 5-3-2 overall and remain unbeaten in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at 5-0-1. This marked the first loss for Emmanuel who now holds a record of 7-1-1 (5-1-1 GNAC).
Rivier had previously gone scoreless in all matchups against Emmanuel dating back to October 2014. The Saints entered the contest first in the nation in scoring offense, averaging five goals a game.
Sophomore forward Maya Leach broke the scoring open with just 2:02 left to play in the opening half, burying a feed from junior Elisabeth Jacob, to give the home side a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Saints responded 40 seconds into the second half as Loliana Morales took advantage of a clearing miscue to level the score.
Nearly 43 minutes later, junior forward Emily Harper slid a pass to sophomore Amber Casner at the top of the box and fired a shot off the left post and in to put the Raiders back on top, 2-1, with 1:38 left in regulation.
Rivier would preserve the lead until the final buzzer to remain unbeaten against conference opponents.
Junior goalkeeper Bri Nugent made 11 saves in the victory, marking her highest save tally of the season.
Rivier will continue GNAC play on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in a road matchup against Dean with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at the Longley Athletic Complex.
