
Six Fall Sport Raiders Appointed to GNAC All-Sportsmanship Teams
WINTHROP, Mass. – Head coaches from all six fall varsity athletic programs have appointed Rivier student-athletes to represent the Raiders on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship teams, the conference office announced this month.
Men's Cross Country
Tafari Willie, a junior from Killeen, Texas, competed in six of the seven meets in his first season with the squad in 2024. His best time came in the GNAC Championship race on Nov. 2 when he ran the 8K event in 34:15.7, topping his previous personal-best by over two minutes.
"Tafari was a leader this season in terms of coming to practice with the desire to learn and get better every day. He never complained once and always showed up with a positive attitude, which I think really inspired the entire team." - Head Coach Ellie Goyette
Women's Cross Country
Anne McIntosh, a senior from Nashua, N.H., competed in six meets. She posted a personal-best 6K time of 31:51.2 on Sept. 14 at the Pop Crowell Invitational.
"Anne was always there for her teammates and wanted everyone to succeed. Her encouragement and commitment towards her teammates stood out this season, especially during her continued support and dedication to the team even when injuries arose." - Goyette
Field Hockey
Brianna Spinelli, a sophomore from Lynn, Mass., made nine starts over 18 games played. She potted four goals, two game-winners, with four assists.
"Bri has not only excelled in the sport of field hockey but has positively affected GNAC field hockey as a whole both on and off the field." - Head Coach Hayley Sutherland
Men's Soccer
Jonathan Rudy, a senior from Hudson, N.H., made nine starts over 19 games played. He notched eight points with three goals and two assists.
"Rudy shows what true sportsmanship looks like on and off the field. He's a great example of how to play the game with integrity, humility, and a positive attitude." - Head Coach Jon Cross
Women's Soccer
Elizabeth Downing, a senior from Weare, N.H., made two starts in five contests after rehabbing an injury the season prior.
"Liz Downing embodies the true spirit of sportsmanship by leading with heart, grit, and selflessness. She puts her teammates, coaches, and the program above all else, while fiercely competing in every game and practice, inspiring those around her to strive for excellence." - Head Coach Daniel Milton
Women's Volleyball
Sam Driend, a sophomore from Sandown, N.H., played in 110 sets over 32 matches. She recorded 181 digs and 148 kills.
"I nominated Sam because of her respect for her teammates, opponents, officials, and the game itself. Sam continues to lead by example, balancing competitive intensity, with genuine kindness. Her positive attitude, Fair play, and ability to lift those around her make her a great candidate for the award." - Head Coach Jeff Costa '05
