Women’s Ice Hockey Falls Short Against Plymouth St.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Despite late scoring chances, the Rivier women's ice hockey team fell to Plymouth St. 1-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play Friday at Hanaway Rink.

With the loss the Raiders fell to 7-8-0 (4-2-0 MASCAC), while the Panthers improved to 10-5-1 (6-0-1 MASCAC).

In a back-and-forth game through and through, Rivier started the game out in front logging the first four shots of the contest. Both teams traded opportunities throughout the remainder of the first period. The Raiders ended the frame ahead in the shot count, 17-15, but the scoreboard remained empty heading into the first intermission.

Just over five minutes into the second period, Plymouth St. broke the deadlock and pot the game's lone goal. From then until the final whistle, the Panthers maintained control, outshooting Rivier 32-16.

A last-ditch effort for the Raiders in the third period had them logging the contests' final three shots, but thanks to the efforts of Panthers goalkeeper Karlee Lehner and forward Emily DeSimone, Plymouth St. closed out the match, 1-0.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Hinkley led the game with 25 stops. Offensively, sophomore forward Rebecca McKelvey had a team high five shots on goal, followed by junior forward Jessica Driscoll with four. Defensively, junior defender Olivia Schultz led the way in blocks with three.

The Raiders are back in action Saturday, Jan. 25 for Hockey Fights Cancer Night and game two of the home-and-home with Plymouth St. Puck drop is scheduled of 4:20 p.m. at Conway Arena.
