Women’s Ice Hockey Holds Off Manhattanville, 3-2

RYE, N.Y. – In its first contest of the new year, the Rivier women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-2 victory on Saturday evening in a non-conference clash with Manhattanville at the Playland Ice Casino.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 5-7-0 overall while the Valiants dropped to 4-8-2.

Despite being outshot 14-6 in the opening frame, sophomore Rebecca McKelvey scored with less than two minutes left in the first period to give Rivier the lead at the first intermission.

The Raiders tacked on a second goal 4:38 into the second period as junior Jessica Driscoll found the back of the net from a Breezy Parent feed to make it 2-0.

The hosts struck early in the third, cutting their deficit in half 1:54 into the period. Rivier sophomore Tia Picardi recorded an unassisted tally less than four minutes later to give Riv its two-goal cushion back. With 3:09 remaining in regulation, the Valiants scored to make it a one-goal game yet again. Despite pulling its goalie for the extra attacker, Manhattanville could not equalize as junior Jillian Hallee blocked a shot in the final seconds to maintain the win.

Senior netminder Rachel Hinkley made 36 stops in between the pipes for Riv as the visitors were outshot 38-26.

Both sides went 0-for-2 on powerplay opportunities. The Raiders narrowly had the edge on faceoffs, winning 28 out of 54 tries (51.9%).

Rivier will return to Conway Arena for the first time in 2025 on Wednesday, Jan. 15 for an 8:40 p.m. non-conference clash against Keene St. This will be the final of four meetings between the Raiders and Owls this season.
