McKelvey Scores Two Late to Put Away Vikings in OT, 3-2

Highlights: Rivier Women's Ice Hockey vs. Salem St.

SALEM, Mass. – Rivier women's ice hockey sophomore forward Rebecca McKelvey sealed the deal in the Raiders' 3-2 overtime comeback win over Salem St. on Friday evening at Rockett Arena.

The Raiders improved to 3-7, snapping a five-game skid, while the Vikings dropped to 2-8.

Salem St. opened the scoring just six minutes into the first period. Despite Rivier's chances later in the frame, they entered the first intermission trailing 1-0.

The Raiders came out firing in the second, outshooting the Vikings 6-2 early on. However, Salem St. capitalized on a turnover in Rivier's defensive zone, scoring a shorthanded goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Rivier responded with 59 seconds left when junior forward Jessica Driscoll won a puck battle along the boards and set up first-year Keegan McGaheran, who scored during a Salem St. line change, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Rivier dominated offensively in the third, outshooting the Vikings 13-6. With just 0.4 seconds left in regulation, McKelvey tied the game, finishing a play set up by senior forward Briana Paxson.

Overtime saw chances for both teams before McKelvey forced a turnover in the neutral zone and scored the game-winner firing a shot through the five-hole.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Symmes recorded 29 saves in the win.

The Raiders return to action on Saturday, Dec. 7, against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Anna Maria. Puck drop is set for 7:20 p.m. at Buffone Arena in Worcester, MA.
