McKelvey Named MASCAC Player of the Week
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Following a four-point weekend, Rivier women's ice hockey sophomore forward Rebecca McKelvey earned the title of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
In a Friday night tilt at Salem St., McKelvey lit the lamp with less than a second to play to tie the game and force overtime. McKelvey played the hero in the extra period, potting the game-winning goal to help the Raiders snap a five-game skid.
On Saturday, the Raiders faced off against Anna Maria in the second matchup against the MASCAC foe this season. McKelvey helped Rivier get on the board 4:40 into the contest, assisting on senior defender Olivia Schultz's first collegiate goal. In the third, she tacked on an empty-netter to seal the deal and finish the week with a +4 rating.
McKelvey heads into the winter break second in the conference in goals (8), third in points (12), and tied-second in shots (54). She is also tied-15th nationally with 0.70 goals per game.
Rivier returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 with a non-conference clash at Manhattanville with a 3:00 p.m. puck drop scheduled from Playland Ice Casino.
