Rumptz Scores Twice to Boost Women’s Ice Hockey to 2-1 OT Win Over Keene St.
NASHUA, N.H. – Junior forward Brianna Rumptz saved the day for the Rivier women's ice hockey team in a Wednesday night non-conference battle against Keene St. at Conway Arena as she scored the game-tying goal with 13.6 seconds remaining in regulation before scoring the overtime winner to win by a final score of 2-1.
The Raiders improved to 6-7-0 on the campaign while the Owls fell to 10-7-0.
Rivier was outshot 11-8 in the opening period in which neither side could break the deadlock.
Just over halfway through the second period, the visitors got on the board shortly after an unsuccessful powerplay bid to take a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
Riv turned up the offensive pressure in the third, outshooting the Owls 12-5. With under a minute to play, the Raiders stayed onside by keeping the puck in at the blue line before feeding Rumptz for her first of the night, forcing a five-minute three-on-three OT period.
Despite a few scoring chances early in OT, Rumptz caught up to breakout feed into space while Keene St. was on a line change to start a rush with classmate Molly Dukesherer. She opted to shoot five-hole and tap in her own rebound to give Riv its first win over the Owls after four meetings between both programs in 2024-25.
Senior netminder Rachel Hinkley made 29 saves in her fourth victory of the campaign as Keene St. narrowly outshot Rivier 30-29.
Both teams were unsuccessful on two powerplay chances.
Riv returns to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday, Jan. 18 in a road matchup at Framingham St. The matchup against the Rams will begin at 3:20 p.m. at Loring Arena.
