Men’s Volleyball Splits with Emmanuel and Lasell

NEWTON, MA: Rivier men's volleyball split the day with a win over Emmanuel College and a loss to Lasell University this afternoon in conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/1/23

- Score: Rivier 3, Emmanuel 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22). Lasell 3, Rivier 0 (24-26, 23-25, 16-25)

- Records: Lasell (16-12, 10-3 GNAC), Rivier (16-10, 10-3 GNAC), Emmanuel (15-11, 8-5 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match One

-  The first match for the Raiders was a tight one with the Saints. Rivier was able to minimize the errors in each set and outhit Emmanuel 39 to 30 to get the three-set sweep.

- Sokunbith Ly (Lowell, MA) led the offense for the Raiders, finishing with a match-high 13 kills on just one error, giving him a .444 kill percentage. Ethan Soltis (Massillon, OH) dished out 35 assists while also digging out six attacks. Thomas Miller (Clifton Park, NY) topped the team in digs with nine.

- For the Saints, Jyles Amirault was the go-to option for setter Roman Fabrizio who racked up a team-high 11 kills. Amirault topped the team in digs as well with ten. Fabrizio sent out 21 assists.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Rivier 39, Emmanuel 30

-  Assists: Rivier 38, Emmanuel 27

-  Digs: Rivier 38, Emmanuel 30

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match Two

-  The Lasers just snuck away with the first two sets, continuing their momentum to take the third set to complete the sweep. Both teams were very close in all statistical categories, with Lasell coming out on top with kills making the difference with 38 to the Raiders 29.

-  Theo Zaharewicz topped all in this one with 17 kills on just four errors to get a kill percentage of .448. Jesus Garcia topped the team in both assists with 35 and digs with seven.

-  Jack Normandin (Clifton Park, NY) finished with a team-high of ten kills. Soltis added 25 assists to his stat line, along with four digs. Ly found himself getting the most digs for the team with six.

-  Kills: Lasell 38, Rivier 29

-  Assists: Lasell 37, Rivier 26

-  Digs: Lasell 26, Rivier 24
