Men’s Volleyball Drops Two in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA: Rivier men's volleyball fell in both matches this evening to Springfield College and SUNY Potsdam.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/4/23

- Score: Springfield 3, Rivier 0 (22-25, 13-25, 22-25). Potsdam 3, Rivier 2 (25-27, 23-25, 28-26, 25-20, 11-15)

- Records: Springfield (6-1), Rivier (1-3), Potsdam (4-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match One

-  The Raiders fell just short in the first and third sets, matching an impressive Springfield squad. Riv struggled in the second set, hitting -.250 with just three kills and seven errors. It also happened to be the hosting team's best set, with 13 kills on just five errors.

- Jarrett Anderson led the way for Springfield with 14 kills and just three errors, finishing with a .478 kill percentage. Dylan Mulvaney racked up 26 assists in the win.  

- The Raiders offense was paced by Isaac Borges (New Boston, NH), who tallied six kills with just one error for a .625 kill percentage. Neil Rea (Windham, NH) had a team-high ten assists in the effort.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Springfield 34, Rivier 23

-  Assists: Springfield 28, Rivier 20

-  Digs: Springfield 16, Rivier 12

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match Two

- After going down 2-0, the Raiders found an offensive groove, racking up 16 kills in the third set and 19 kills in the fourth. All sets were close throughout, but the Bears were able to stave off the Raiders in the fifth set to close it out.

- Potsdam was led by Joe Zimmerman, who finished with a match-high 18 kills. He also ended with a team-high in digs with 13. Cooper Colesante broke the 40 mark in assists with 43.

- Rivier finished with three athletes break double digits in kills, with Borges leading the way with 16. Sokunbuth Ly (Lowell, MA) finished just behind him with 14 kills, along with Chris Lezon (Lincoln, RI), who ended with 13 kills. Thomas Miller (Clifton Park, NY) racked up a game-high 19 digs. Ethan Soltis (Massillon, OH) took over the setter role in this one, finishing with a match-high 45 assists.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Kills: Rivier 63, Potsdam 47

- Assists: Rivier 62. Potsdam 45

- Digs: Rivier 60, Potsdam 38

- Rivier men's volleyball will be back on the court Tuesday at 7 pm in the Muldoon Center against GNAC opponent Emerson College.
