Men’s Hockey Takes Down Penmen

HOOKSETT, NH: Rivier men's hockey picked up the win this evening against Southern New Hampshire University.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/10/23

- Score: Rivier 4, SNHU 3

- Records: Rivier (7-14-2), SNHU (8-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The two teams traded goals through the first two periods. The Penmen got on the board first at 4:19 into the first period on a power play opportunity by George Thurston. The Raiders would respond just 59 seconds later on a Josh Sanchez (Potsdam, NY) goal.

- The second period saw SNHU score early on again, just 1:40 into the period, giving Thurston his second goal of the game. At 18:48, Alfred Rotiroti (Chicago, IL) would knot the game back up at 2-2.

- The third period started with Jon Tavella (E. Longmeadow, MA) finding the back of the net, giving the Raiders their first lead of the contest. Cormac Hayes (E. Longmeadow, MA) extended the lead at the five-minute mark to put Riv up 4-2. The Penmen would strike one more time to get the final of 4-3. Jim Minning was credited with the final score.

- Andrew LoRusso (Peabody, MA) got the win after saving 37 shots faced. Nathan Loisel was tagged with the loss, saving 17 shots faced.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: SNHU 40, Rivier 21

-  Penalties: Both squads had 10 minutes on 5 infractions

-  Power Play: SNHU was 1-for-3, Rivier was 0-for-4.

- Rivier men's hockey will be back tomorrow against St. Anselm at Conway Arena, with the puck drop coming at 7:20 pm.
