Men’s Hockey Nets Five Goals in First Period in Win Over Albertus

NEW HAVEN, CT: Rivier men's hockey took down Albertus Magnus this afternoon.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/27/23

- Score: Rivier 5, Albertus 2

- Records: Rivier (6-11-2), Albertus (15-6-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders scored early and often throughout the first period. Riv quickly went up 3-0 in the first nine minutes of the contest. Bryan Van Ness (New York, NY) got the ball rolling at 2:26. Cormac Hayes (E. Longmeadow, MA) would add on just a few minutes later on a power play opportunity. Ashton Jones (South Lyon, MI) would net the third straight Raider goal. The Falcons would respond at 9:21, finding the back of the net to decrease the deficit to just two. Tim Manning was credited with the Albertus score.

- Rivier would tack on another two before the period would end at 12:00 minutes by Seth Robinson (Haverhill, MA) and at 19:37 by Carson Fotheringham (Rochester, NY).

- Albertus would add one more goal in the second, but that would be all the scoring for the remainder of the game. Coleton Clanci closed out the scoring to get the final of 5-2.

- Luke Newell (Littleton, CO) got the win (4-7-2) after compiling 43 saves. Joseph Glacobbo was tagged with the loss (2-3-1) after saving 19 shots on goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Albertus 45, Rivier 26

-  Penalties: Rivier only had 8 minutes on 4 infractions. Albertus had 18 minutes on 5 infractions.

-  Power Plays: Rivier was 1-for-4, while Albertus was 0-for-4.
