O'Reilly reaches 3,000 career assists, Women's Volleyball sweeps tri-match

(New Haven, Conn.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team captured two important Great Northeast Athletic Conference wins this afternoon in a conference tri-match hosted by Albertus Magnus College. The Raiders swept both games against Albertus Magnus and Norwich University.

Junior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded her 3,000th career assist in the process. She joins Laura Ciummo '09 as the only Rivier Women's Volleyball student-athletes to reach the historic milestone. Ciummo is the current career leader with 3,936 assists.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Norwich University 0 (Final)

The Raiders came off the long bus ride swinging as they easily took the three set match from the Cadets by scores of 25-9, 25-15, 25-17.

Sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) was the kill leader as she hammered down 9 kills and classmate Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded a .625 hitting percentage as she added 5 kills and 5 total blocks in the win. O'Reilly notched 24 assists, including her 3,000th career assist, in the contest while sophomore Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) led the team with 14 digs. Also reaching double digit digs were junior Lyndsey Sweeney (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) who had 12 and 10 digs respectively. Freshman Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) also collected 10 digs and a kill for the Raiders.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Albertus Magnus College 0 (Final)

Rivier would go on to close out the tri-match with a convincing 3-0 win over host Albertus Magnus by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-19.

McCormack led the offensive charge as she totaled 12 kills, 2 service aces and a .391 hitting percentage for Rivier. Sophomore Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) added a solid .389 hitting percentage and 8 kills while junior Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) had 7 kills in the win. O'Reilly collected another 32 assists with Sweeney leading the defense with 9 digs.

The two wins propel the Raiders to their 10th straight 20+ win season as they are now 21-6 overall. They are 8-1 in the GNAC this season with just two conference games left next Saturday at home against the University of Saint Joseph and Mount Ida College.

The team will return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Framingham State University for a 7pm non-conference contest.
