Mott, Women's Volleyball take down Suffolk & Lasell in Tri-Match

(Boston, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team earned two important Great Northeast Athletic Conference victories this afternoon over Suffolk University and Lasell College in a GNAC Tri-Match hosted by the Rams of Suffolk University. The Raiders were able to capture the win in straight sets over Suffolk in the day's first match before taking a four set win over the Lasers in the day's middle match.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Suffolk University 0 (Final)

Sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) hammered down 12 kills and three service aces as the Raiders easily defeated Suffolk University by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-10.

Sophomore Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) recorded a .647 hitting percentage as she also laced 12 kills in the win. Junior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) directed the potent Raider offense as she dished out 31 assists and freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) collected 15 digs to lead the team. Mott also recorded four total blocks in the win.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Lasell College 1 (Final)

Mott remained red hot as she guided the Raider to victory in the day's middle game over Lasell College by scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-12.

Mott finished the four set match with a career high 20 kills and a .485 hitting percentage. She also had help from McCormack who belted down another 10 kills while sophomore Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) also reached double-digits with 10 kills. Silverman provided defense along the net as she totaled six blocks, three of which were block solos. O'Reilly had an outstanding match as she gave out 42 helpers and four service aces. Trevino added 25 digs to her afternoon and both junior Lyndsey Sweeney (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) chipped in with six digs in the win.

Rivier is now 15-5 overall in 2014 and are 2-0 in the GNAC.

The Raiders will welcome the Simmons College Sharks to the friendly confines of the Muldoon Gymnasium for their next scheduled matchup on Tuesday (October 7) evening. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
