Women's Volleyball drops final two games at Springfield College Invitational

(Springfield, Mass.) Coming off an perfect 3-0 sweep last night over Westfield State, the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team was only able to take one set against Stevens Institute of Technology and zero against host Springfield College at the Springfield Invitational. The Raiders fell to Stevens in four sets by scores of 20-25, 11-25, 25-23 and 25-9 before being swept by the Pride 21-25, 20-25, 14-25.

Game One: Stevens Institute of Technology 3, Rivier University 1 (Final)

The young talented Raiders were able to win the third set to avoid the sweep in the day's first game against Stevens. Sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) was the offensive leader as she nailed down 9 kills while classmates Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) added seven kills each. Junior setter Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) was just shy of 30 assists as she ended with 29 helpers and 10 digs. Freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) led the team with 15 digs and classmate Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) provided double-digit digs as well with 10.

Game Two: Springfield College 3, Rivier Unviersity 0 (Final)

The final match for the Raiders was against the hosts, Springfield College and Rivier put up quite a fight despite the three set loss.

McCormack led the offense as she hammered down 12 kills and Mott, along with sophomore Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) provided seven kills each in the loss. O'Reilly dished out 29 assists and McCormack collected 11 digs to lead the team in those respective categories. Trevino and Soucy each finished with 8 digs.

Rivier is now 3-3 on the season and will look to get back in the win column as they travel up to New London, N.H. for a tough road non-conference contest with Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday evening.
