McCormack, Trevino earn GNAC Weekly Honors
(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced earlier today that Rivier University sophomore Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was selected as the Women's Volleyball Player of the Week. Freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) was also selected as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week and GNAC Rookie of the Week.
McCormack was tabbed the GNAC Player of the Week after averaging 2.83 kills per set at the Western Connecticut State Invitational, in which the Raiders went 2-1. She recorded double-digit kills in all three matches and double-digit digs in two games. McCormack registered 14 kills in a five set loss against Western Connecticut but notched 10 kill performances in wins over Brandeis and Purchase State.
Trevino made an impressive Rivier debut as she totaled 59 digs in two games, including a 37 dig performance against Western Connecticut. In her first collegiate game, the rookie totaled 22 digs in a 3-1 win over Brandeis. She also recorded a 6.56 digs per set average over the weekend.
This is the first time that McCormack has been named GNAC Player of the Week in her career. She was tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week once in 2013. Trevino also garnered these honors for the first time in her young career.
The Women's Volleyball will hit the court again on Friday evening as they travel out to Springfield, Mass. for the Springfield College Invitational. They will face Westfield State at 7pm.
