NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament win since the 2001 season, the seventh-seeded Rivier men's soccer team travels to New Haven for a quarterfinal matchup against No. 2 seed Albertus Magnus on Saturday, Nov. 2 with kickoff from Celentano Field set for 1:00 p.m.
Rivier converted on all five of their penalties in Thursday night's Play-In game to advance past Lasell, 1-1 (5-4 Home PK), advancing the Raiders to the conference quarterfinals for the first time in 23 years.
Albertus Magnus went 10-1-3 in GNAC play to solidify the two-seed and earn home-field advantage through at least the first two rounds.
The Raiders head into Saturday's contest winless in their last seven meetings against the Falcons, including this season's 1-0 loss at Celantano Field back on Sept. 14. when Albertus Magnus scored with 93 seconds left to take the result from the Raiders.
Rivier's point contributions have come mainly from Alejandro Quezada (14), Thomas Hennessey (11), Arthur Dias (9), Jason Harlow (9), Aldo Vespro (9), and Jonathan Rudy (8) who, alongside goalkeeper Logan Clough, look to stall the streaking Falcons, who enter tonight's game with a three-game winning streak in hand.
Albertus Magnus is led by Lorenzo Lauria, whose nine goals and 20 points top the squad. The Falcons posted 10 victories in 2024, the most since 2011, with a nearly perfect 6-0-2 home record.
The winner of Saturday's contest will advance to the GNAC Semifinals against the winner of No. 3 JWU (Providence) and No. 6 Anna Maria on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a time and location to be announced.
