CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Rivier men's soccer team played to a 2-2 stalemate with Elms in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Tuesday evening.
With the draw, the Raiders sit at 5-4-5 (3-3-4 GNAC) and the Blazers hold a record of 3-10-1 (2-8-1 GNAC).
Rivier applied pressure in the early going, recording 10 shots in the first half. Sophomore Aldo Vespro broke opened the scoring in the 31st minute with his first career goal of a long ball into the box from senior Jason Harlow.
As time was expiring in the opening frame, sophomore Giovanni Iob fired one past the keeper for his second career goal off a dish from Vespro, which gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
The Blazers flipped the script in the second half, as they outshot Rivier 13-4. Elms cut the lead to one off a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, the Blazers found the back of the net once again to bring the match even.
Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Clough notched six saves in the contest.
The Raiders return to action for a Friday night showdown to face off against JWU (Providence) in a GNAC showdown. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Merrill Field.
