Men's Soccer Picks Up First GNAC Victory with 1-0 Win Over Lasell

NASHUA, N.H. - The Rivier men's soccer team defeated Lasell, 1-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field during Alumni Reunion Weekend. This victory marks the first win over a GNAC opponent in the Cross Era. 

With the win, the Raiders improved to 3-3-3 (1-2-2 GNAC), while Lasell fell to 1-6-1 (1-3-1 GNAC). 

Rivier took the lead in the 32nd minute when senior Thomas Lanzillo delivered a free kick into the box. Sophomores Mitchell Ward and Jayden Medlin flicked the ball on to first-year Luiggi Ferreira, who tapped it in for his first collegiate goal, giving Rivier a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Raiders outshot Lasell 14-3 in the first half, with five shots on target. 

The Raiders maintained pressure in the second half, controlling the majority of possession but were unable to find a second goal, ultimately finishing the match with a 1-0 victory. Rivier outshot Lasell 21-6 and earned six corners in the contest. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Clough recorded five saves, achieving his first shutout in a GNAC contest. 

The Raiders will look to build on this win as they return to GNAC play on Wednesday, October 2, against Regis (Mass.) at the Regis Athletic Center. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
