Men's Basketball drops a 4-point game to JWU

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team lost their 8th Great Northeast Athletic Conference game of the season as visiting Johnson and Wales University defeated the Raiders 66-62 this afternoon at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The loss drops the Raiders to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the GNAC. Johnson & Wales improves to 13-4 and 9-1 GNAC.

Senior Nick Walch (Dedham, Mass.) paced the Rivier offense with 16 points and 7 rebounds – both team highs. Classmate Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) added 14 points and sophomore Kywane Thomas (Hartford, Conn.) contributed 11 points in the hard fought loss. Freshman Kevin Francis (Cromwell, Conn.) came off the bench and added 10 points of his own over his 24 minutes of action.

The player of the game was JWU's senior Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) who had 11 points and collected 12 of his game high 16 rebounds on the defensive side. Sophomore Quarry Greenway (Westchester, NY) was the game's leading scorer with 23 points and the Wildcats also saw both senior Curtis Lucas (Providence, RI) and sophomore Robert Lewis (Providence, RI) reach double-digits with 11 and 13 points, respectively.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Wednesday evening. Rivier will host Mount Ida College in a 7pm tip-off at the Muldoon Gymnasium while JWU will travel to Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn.
