Men's Basketball battles to 11 point loss to Albertus Magnus

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team fought valiantly this evening as they hosted the now 9-1 Albertus Magnus College Falcons in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Raiders, now 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC, closed what once was a 15 point deficit in the first half to just two points with 11 minutes remaining. In the end however Albertus Magnus was able to hit the shots when needed and went on for the victory.

Senior Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) continues to have a terrific season as the 6-6 forward had 25 points and 11 rebounds. Classmate Nick Walch (Dedham, Mass.) also recorded a double-double as he recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Kywane Thomas (Hartford, CT) and junior Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) each had 15 and 10 points, respectively in the loss. Senior Emmanuel Smith (New York, NY) added 11 points off the bench for the Raiders.

Albertus Magnus was led by Darius Watson who went 6-for-10 from the floor en route to a 22 point night. All five Falcon starters reached double-digit points in the win. Kyle Wiggins came off the bench and hit four three-pointers as he finished with 14 points. Eian Davis collected 9 rebounds and had 13 points while both James Jennings and Lemar Larsen each had 10 points apiece.

Both teams will be in GNAC action this Saturday afternoon as the Raiders will travel to Providence, Rhode Isalnd and take on Johnson and Wales in a 1pm tip-off. Albertus Magnus will travel to Boston, Massachusetts and battle Suffolk University for a 3pm matchup.
