Men's Basketball edged by Suffolk, 73-68

(Nashua, New Hampshire) A game tying 3-point attempt with seconds remaining bounced around the rim and fell out as the Rivier University Men's Basketball team suffered a tough 73-68 loss to visiting Suffolk University inside the Muldoon Gymnasium this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

Seniors Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) and Nick Walch (Dedham, Mass.) recorded 20 points each as the Raiders saw their season record fall to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the GNAC. Walch was 9-for-14 with 10 rebounds to record his 8th double-double of the season. Poitras was 8-for-19 and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double. Junior Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) and sophomore Kywane Thomas (Hartford, Conn.) each totaled 13 points in the loss. Senior Mike Fecteau (Epping, NH) was the only non-starter to score as he hit a jumper in the first half for two points.

Suffolk (7-8 overall, 4-4 GNAC) evened their GNAC record with two 18 point performances from junior Sam Nwadike (Houston, TX) and freshman Frantz Pinard (Arlington, Mass.). Nwadike was only 4-for-11 as he hit four three-pointers over his 32 minutes of action. Pinard went 7-for-14 with a pair of three-pointers and pulled down 8 rebounds. Sophomore Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) was the other Ram to record double-digit points as he finished with 14.

The Raiders will return to action on Monday afternoon as they make the journey to New Haven, Connecticut to square off against Albertus Magnus College. The GNAC contest is slated to begin at 3pm. Suffolk will host GNAC foe Lasell College in their next scheduled matchup on Tuesday evening at 7pm.
