Men's Basketball falls to CSI in the 12th annual Tournament of Heroes

(Staten Island, New York) After 18 days off due to the holiday break, the Rivier University Men's Basketball team traveled down to Staten Island, New York as they were selected to participate in the 12th annual Tournament of Heroes hosted by the College of Staten Island.

In the second game of the evening, Rivier matched up against the host Dolphins for a trip to the tournament championship game. In the end, it was CSI who would make that trip as they defeated the Raiders 93-63.

The Raiders were led by the senior duo of Nick Walch (Dedham, MA) and Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) who combined for 31 of the teams 63 points. Walch was 6-for-7 from the floor, including a 3-pointer and three free throws for 16 points while Poitras went 5-for-12 with a 3-pointer and four free throws (15 points). Sophomore Brandon Moran (Peabody, MA) and freshman Matthew Manning (Peabody, MA) each added six points off the bench in the loss.

Staten Island was paced by Javon Cox who recorded 22 points and Kevin King who added 17 for the win. Will Fonseca, Bloochy Magloire and Dylan Bulger all registered double-digit efforts off the bench for the Dolphins.

River, who falls below .500 with a 4-5 overall mark, will face New Jersey City University in the Tournament of Heroes Consolation game. NJCU lost in the tournament opener to Randolph College. This will be the first ever meeting between NJCU and Rivier as tip-off is scheduled for 1pm tomorrow afternoon.
