STANDISH, Maine – The Rivier field hockey team fell short in overtime against St. Joseph's (Me.), 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at the SJC Athletics Complex.
The Raiders fell to 7-10 (5-7 GNAC) as the Monks improved to 8-9 (7-4 GNAC).
Saint Joseph's got on the board early thanks to a goal by Maya Waryas 4:32 into the action. With three minutes remaining in the opening frame, Rivier graduate student, Kayla Miles, evened the scoring on an unassisted tally.
Following the offensive success of both teams in the first period, Saint Joseph's (Me.) outshot the Raiders 16-5 in the remaining three quarters of regulation.
The Monks continued their offensive control heading into overtime as they logged five shots to Rivier's one. Katie Yeaton scored the GWG for Saint Joseph's (Me.) as she buried a shot off a rebound.
Senior goalkeeper Kylie Coupal logged 14 saves in the game, her second most this season.
The Raiders end the regular season on the road as they face off against non-conference opponent Mount Holyoke Tuesday, Oct. 29. The match is set for 6:00 p.m. at the MHC Turf and Track Complex.
