NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team downed non-conference opponent Gordon in Wednesday night's season opener at Merrill Field by a final score of 2-0.
The win marked the Raiders' first in a season opener since the 2018 campaign. It was also the first time Rivier started a season at home since 2015.
The Fighting Scots fell to 0-3 with the result. The win marks the first over Gordon in the all-time series.
Fifth-year Chloe Sicard scored with one second remaining in the first half off a corner chance generated by junior Reilly Swislosky to give the Raiders the lead at halftime.
Rivier continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, attempting 15 shots in the final 30 minutes. Senior Hailey Morse registered an unassisted goal with 1:54 remaining in regulation to double the lead and put the game away.
Senior goalkeeper Kylie Coupal made two saves in her first shutout of the season.
Rivier outshot the Fighting Scots, 31-2, with 16 shots landing on target. The Raiders stacked up 25 corner opportunities to Gordon's two.
The Raiders will travel to Waterville, Maine, on Sunday, Sept. 8, for a showdown with Thomas (Me.). The game will start at 1:00 p.m. from Bernatchez Field.
