Field Hockey Comes Up Short against Simmons

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team came up short Friday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bout, as they fell to Simmons, 4-2.

With the loss, the Raiders fell to 2-6 (1-4 GNAC), while the Sharks improved to 9-1 (4-0 GNAC).

A penalty corner paved the way for the Sharks opening goal as Gonyea found the back for the first time in the contest to give Simmons the early 1-0 lead.

The Sharks would continue to apply offensive pressure in the second quarter, taking a 2-0 lead half-way through the second quarter.

With just under three minutes remaining in the first half, junior Reilly Swislosky found the back of the net from the top of the shooting area to cut Simmons' to one.

The Sharks would tack on two more taking a 4-1 lead late into the fourth quarter, until Graduate Chloe Sicard found twine off a pass from senior Jacklyn O'Connor to bring the game final at 4-2 in favor of the Sharks.   

Senior goalkeeper, Kylie Coupal, recorded nine saves in the contest.

The Raiders hit the field Wednesday, Oct. 2 on the road against Regis for more GNAC play. The matchup is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Regis Athletic Center.
