Field Hockey Falls to JWU (Providence), 3-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rivier field hockey team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe JWU (Providence) by a score of 3-0 Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Raiders fell to 2-4 (1-2 GNAC), while the Wildcats improved to 4-3 (2-0 GNAC).

The Wildcats got on board early, finding the back of the net as a result of a penalty corner that took place just over five minutes into the first quarter.

The Raiders went on the offensive in the second quarter, putting two of their four shots on target, however the Wildcats would find twine for the second time, taking a two-goal lead into the half.

JWU capped off its win with a game-sealing third goal in the remaining two minutes of regulation.

Senior goalkeeper, Kylie Coupal, recorded eight saves in the contest.

The Raiders are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they face off against cross-state rivals, Colby-Sawyer. The game is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Merrill Field.
