Women's Basketball downs JWU, 72-51

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team continues to win as they took down the visiting Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University this afternoon 71-52 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The win improves the Raiders' record to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the GNAC while JWU falls to 5-12, 2-2 GNAC.

Rivier was led by junior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) who had the game high of 18 points. Three other Raiders reached the double-digit scoring plateau including senior Jaclyn Penniman (Dudley, MA) who finished a rebound shy of a double-double – 10 points, 9 rebounds. Senior Ryan Baker (Whitinsville, MA) dished out 8 assists on the afternoon to go along with her 14 points and classmate Erin Sweeney (Chicopee, MA) knocked down a pair of threes en route to her 11 points. Freshman Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, NH) finished with 6 points and a team high 9 rebounds. Senior AJ Guidi (Derry, NH) added 8 points off the bench in the win.

The Wildcats got a solid effort from junior Valerie Arce (Providence, RI) who led the team with 12 points in a reserve role. Senior Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, NY) and junior D'Ana Rolle (Gardner, MA) both registered 10 points. Arce and junior Kaitlin Kenney (Branford, CT) pulled down 9 rebounds for JWU.

Rivier will return to action on Thursday night when they host Mount Ida College in a 7pm GNAC matchup at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Johnson & Wales will also be back on the court on Thursday evening as they travel to Albertus Magnus College for a 7pm GNAC tip-off.
