Women's Basketball falls to #19 Bowdoin College

(Daytona Beach, Florida) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered an 82-63 setback to undefeated Bowdoin College this afternoon at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. The loss is just the second of the season for Rivier (5-2) while the nationally ranked (#19) Polar Bears are 10-0 this season.

Bowdoin went on an opening 19-5 run and controlled the game for there on out.

Rivier received solid efforts from senior Jaclyn Penniman (Dudley, MA) and junior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH). Penniman recorded a team high 18 points and 5 rebounds while Purcell added 13 points and 2 rebounds. Freshman Savannah Butterfield (Londonderry, NH) finished just two rebounds shy of another double-double as she registered 11 points and 8 boards. Senior AJ Guidi (Derry, NH) came off the bench and contributed with 8 points in the loss.

Bowdoin received double-digit games from four different student-athletes. Their top scorer was Sara Binkhorst who had 20 points and 8 rebounds. Shannon Brady added 14 points while Megan Phelps and Selena Lorrey each chipped in 11 points.

Rivier will enjoy a day off before facing Penn State – Behrend in a 2pm tip-off on Monday afternoon. They will return to the Muldoon Gymnasium to host Lesley University on January 5th in a 1pm non-conference contest.
