Women's Basketball takes down Suffolk

(Boston, Massachusetts) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team bounced back from a tough loss at home on Thursday night to defeat Suffolk University, 67-54 this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

Rivier held a slim 31-28 lead at halftime but was able to make a few adjustments to explode to a 13 point win over the Rams.

Junior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) took control of the game as she was able to shoot 8-for-12, including 3-of-4 from 3-point land, as she had the game high with 23 points. 10 of her 23 points came in the final 20 minutes of play. Senior Jaclyn Penniman (Dudley, Mass.) added 12 points and freshman Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, NH) chipped in 11 points as the Raiders improved to 11-3 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in Conference play.

Three players scored in the double digits for the Rams. Junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) scored a team high of 15 points on the afternoon. While junior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) netted 12 points and senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points and a game high nine rebounds for Suffolk.

Rivier will try to make it 3-0 in the GNAC as they travel down to New Haven, Connecticut for a 1pm tip-off against GNAC foe Albertus Magnus College. Suffolk (7-4 overall, 2-1 GNAC) will also be in Connecticut on Monday as they have a GNAC contest against the University of Saint Joseph. Game is also scheduled for 1pm.
