Women's Basketball tops Plymouth State 65-52 for first win of 2013-14

(Concord, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team opened their 2013-2014 season this evening against Plymouth State University in the Boys & Girls Club Classic hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute. The Raiders took care of business as they defeated the Panthers, 65-52.

Junior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) led the team and the game with 21 points on 7-for-18 shooting. Freshman Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, NH) made an impressive debut as she netted 12 points while shooting 50% from the floor. Classmate Savannah Butterfield (Londonderry, NH) added 9 points and 2 blocked shots. Senior Erin Sweeney (Chicopee, MA) also contributed 5 points and 6 rebounds in the team's first win of the season.

Plymouth State was guided by the combination of Taylor Perry and Kait Deering who each had 12 points.

The Women's Basketball team will travel to Bridgewater, Massachusetts where they will take on Hunter College in the opening round of the Bridgewater State Invitational Tournament. Game time starts at 7:30pm on Friday (Nov. 22nd) night. The Panthers will host Lyndon State in their next scheduled contest on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1pm.
