Newton, MA - The 12th ranked Rivier College Raider Men's Volleyball wrapped up the 2012 regular season with two conference wins over Mount Ida and Emerson in a tri-match hosted by the Mustangs.
In the morning game, Rivier (23-8 overall, 13-0 GNAC) received a 12 kill game from freshman Matt Tutino (Manorville, NY) as they took three straight sets from Mount Ida, 25-18, 25-11 and 25-12.
Senior Tajh Stokes (Salem, NH) also had a double digit kill performance as he hammered down 10 and recorded a hitting percentage of .600 in the game. Freshman Shane Spellman (Norwich, CT) was the primary setter as he had a game high 24 assists and added 11 digs. Sophomore Terrance Matatall (Danville, NH) and junior Steven Coulson (Huntington Beach, CA) each recorded 1 block solo and 3 block assists to lead the team.
Mount Ida (1-22 overall, 0-12 GNAC) was led by Nick Mello who had 3 kills and Nick Schibi who recorded 4 digs.
Freshman Chris Markuson (Cupertino, CA) laced 14 kills in the afternoon game as the Raiders moved to 14-0 in the GNAC and 24-8 overall with a 3-0 win over Emerson College.
Senior Alex Xenidis (Shelton, CT) had a solid outing as he knocked down 9 kills while classmate Andrew Corwin (Framingham, MA) registered 7 in the game to go along with his team high 9 digs. Junior Steve Visentin (Cheshire, CT) had 33 assists in the game as he recorded his 18th game this season with 30+ assists. Visentin finished the 2012 regular season with 1012 assists.
Rivier took the sets by scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-12.
The Raiders, who already locked up the #1 overall seed, will next host a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament game on Thursday, April 12th at 7pm inside the 'Doon. They will play the winner of #5 Albertus Magnus College and #4 Wentworth Institute of Technology match-up.
