#7 Men's Soccer falls to #2 Norwich in GNAC Quarterfinals

(Northfield, Vermont) The Rivier University Men's Soccer season came to an abrupt end this afternoon as they fell 4-1 to Norwich University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Raiders, who finish at 8-9-1, were the number seven seed in the eight team field and Norwich was the second seed.

The Cadets' senior Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) recorded the traditional hat trick – the fifth of his career – as he scored the first three goals of the contest, including two in the first half, as Norwich moves on to face #3 Johnson and Wales University on Wednesday evening.

Rivier scored their lone goal in the 86th minute when senior Alex Armstrong (Wakefield, R.I.) connected for his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a free kick from just outside the top of the 18. Armstrong placed his shot just inside the upper right corner of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) made three saves in the first playoff action of his career.

The eight wins is the most recorded by a Raider Men's team since 2001. It is also the program's second trip to the GNAC Post-Season in the last four years as the turnaround continues under the direction of sixth year head coach Bill Lawler.
