Men's Soccer falls in Overtime to Trinity College, 1-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team opened their 2016 season this evening with a tough non-conference contest against visiting Trinity College under on-and-off drizzle at Raider Field. The game remained scoreless into the 96th minute before the Bantams' Oliver Murphy (Sr. / Montclair, N.J.) scored the game winner in the first overtime period. The win is the first for Trinity on the season while Rivier falls to 0-1.

The story of the night was the play of Rivier freshman goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.), who single-handily kept the Raiders in the game. He made three impressive point blank stops in the second half against Trinity's Tobias Gimand (Sr. / Fairfield, Conn.) that helped force the overtime period. Deyarmin finished his collegiate debut with 13 saves.

Murphy's goal was unassisted after a failed clear at the top of the 18 in which he collected and was able to sneak the shot past the outstretched Deyarmin.

Offensively for the Raiders, they managed just one shot on Trinity senior goalkeeper Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) – who improved to 1-0 on the season.

Both clubs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they begin conference play on the road. Rivier will travel down to Providence, R.I. for a 12pm Great Northeast Athletic Conference tilt with Johnson & Wales University. Trinity, meanwhile, will be at Williams College for their 1pm New England Small College Athletic Conference contest.
