Men's Soccer tallies late goal in 2-1 win over Maine-Farmington

(Nashua, N.H.) Junior Alex Baker's (Danvers, Mass.) goal in the 84th minute was the difference maker as the Rivier University Men's Soccer team earned their first win of the season, a 2-1 triumph over the University of Maine-Farmington this afternoon at Raider Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Raiders got the scoring started in the 51st minute. A foul inside the box led to a penalty shot for senior Kyle Gambeski (Bedford, N.H.), who promptly converted the kick for his first goal of the season.

Maine-Farmington evened the score on a penalty shot of their own. Henry Ametti converted his shot in the 56th minute to knot the score at one a piece.

Senior Alex Armstrong (Wakefield, R.I.) slotted a perfect pass to Baker at the top of the 18 to set up the winning tally. Baker then broke a tackle and was able to place his shot just underneath the Beaver goalie who was approaching to challenge the shot.

Freshman goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) stopped three of the four shots he faced to earn his first collegiate win between the pipes. Maine-Farmington's Matt Wilson suffered the loss as he also made three saves.

Rivier will return to the pitch on Wednesday night as they host Wheelock College in a non-conference contest starting at 7pm.
