Macken, Gambeski named Rivier Student-Athletes of the Month

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Athletic Department is pleased to announce that sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and senior Kyle Gambeski (Bedford, N.H.) have been selected as the University's Student-Athletes of the Month for September 2016.

Macken, a setter for the Women's Volleyball team, led the team to a 14-1 mark in the opening month of the season. She is currently 2nd in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in assists per set as she totaled 514 for the month to go along with her 72 kills. Her efforts on the month were recognized with her selection to the All-Tournament team at the New York University Invitational Tournament.

Gambeski was selected after guiding the Men's Soccer team to a 3-4-1 overall record. The center back anchored the defensive front in their 2-2 double overtime tie against GNAC opponent Anna Maria College and shutout victories over New England College and Wheelock College. Gambeski also led the defensive efforts in tough 1-0 losses to Trinity College, Daniel Webster College and Saint Joseph's College. He did factor into some offensive stats over the month with a goal against UMaine-Farmington and an assist against New England College all while tallying 11 shots.

Macken and Gambeski are the first pair of Student-Athletes to be selected as the Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month this academic year.
