Field Hockey earns 3-1 win at New England College

(Henniker, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team score three times in the second half as they defeated New England College, 3-1 this evening in Henniker. With the win the Raiders close out their regular season, the first under Head Coach Ellen Maruzewski, with an overall record of 6-11 while the Pilgrams fall to 0-18.

NEC would net the lone goal of the opening half as sophomore Kasondra Moniz (East Providence, R.I.) would net her first goal of the season putting in a loose ball in the 19thminute of play. Rivier would have several opportunities in the first half out shooting NEC 5-1 and holding the 8-1 advantage in corners.

The Raiders would even the score at 1-1 just two minutes into the second half as Chelsie Hubicsak-Muldowney (Windham, N.H.) would take a pass from the corner and dribble in firing a shot past NEC keeper Karlie Bove (Jefferson, Mass.).

Rivier would jump ahead of NEC 2-1 with just over 14 minutes remaining in regulation as Brittani Garza (Alexandria, Va.) would convert on a Raider penalty stroke notching her second goal of the season. The Raiders would tack on an insurance goal in the 61st minute as Meredith Garcia (Newton, N.H.) would put in a cross from Danielle Moran (San Diego, Calif.).

Rivier finished the game out shooting NEC 13-2 and held the 12-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Picking up the win in net for Rivier was Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) who notched one save. Bove finished the game with nine saves for NEC.

The Raiders will wait until after the completion of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference games on Saturday before their first round opponent is determined. The GNAC Tournament will begin on Saturday, November 1st.
