(Fitchburg, Mass.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped a non-conference contest this evening at Fitchburg State University, 2-0. It was the Raiders' fifth consecutive loss to begin the 2014 campaign. Fitchburg State ups their overall record to 2-3.
The Falcons were able to get single goals from Stephanie Stearns and Bailey Miller during a seven minute span in the second half for the win.
Senior goalkeeper Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) made a remarkable 16 saves as the Raiders were outshot 30-3 throughout the contest. Flagg stopped 16 of the 18 shots that were place on net by the Fitchburg State offense.
Sophomores Meredith Garcia (Newton, N.H.) and Chelsea Gomes (Epsom, N.H.) were able to break through the tough Falcon defense and get two shots on net.
Rivier will look to find their way into the win column on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Mount Ida College for an important Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.
