(Leicester, Mass.) Sophomore Chelsea Gomes (Epsom, N.H.) scored in the 62nd minute as the Rivier University Field Hockey team brought home a 1-0 non-conference victory this afternoon at Becker College.
Gomes was able to gather a loose ball in front of the net and knock it past the diving attempt from Becker goalkeeper Gabrielle Gallo.
On the other side of the field, the Raider defense stepped up and limited the Hawks to just nine shot attempts. Senior goalkeeper Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) was able to stop all seven shots that were on net as she earned her second shutout of the season.
The Raiders are now 3-9 overall while Becker sinks to 1-10 in 2014.
Up next for Rivier is a Tuesday evening cross-town contest as they welcome Daniel Webster College to the friendly confines of Raider Field. Game time is set for 7pm.
