Jones, Field Hockey suffers 1-0 loss at Lasell

(Newton, Mass.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team fell on the road this afternoon at Lasell College, 1-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The Raiders slipped to 2-8 overall and have a 1-3 conference mark while the Lasers improve to 4-7 overall, 1-2 GNAC.

The game was largely dominated by the Laser offense who was able to riffle off 19 shots. Senior net minder Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) was able to stonewall the Lasell attack until the 52nd minute when a shot finally got passed her.

Senior Veronica Jones (West Chesterfield, N.H.) made an incredible defensive save in the opening minutes. In the 8th minute of play Lasell's Courtney Braman (Garnder, Mass.) had a quality chance that got past Flagg in the goal, but Jones was able to clear it off the line and prevent the Lasers from obtaining an early lead.

Rivier's best opportunity for a game tying goal occurred in the 67th minute when sophomore Nicole Hauer (North Attleboro, Mass.) made a shot attempt that was turned away by Lasell goalkeeper Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Mass.) and the Lasers held on for the win.

The Raiders will bounce back as they have a 12pm game scheduled tomorrow at Becker College. Lasell will also be on the road in non-conference action as they head to Roger Williams on Wednesday, October 8th for a 4pm start.
