Field Hockey falls to visiting JWU, 1-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped a tough Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon to visiting Johnson and Wales University, 1-0 at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference while the Wildcats now stand at 5-4, 3-0 GNAC.

JWU was able to get the game's lone goal in the 23rd minute of action as Amanda Takach netted an unassisted goal after collecting a loose ball in front of the Rivier net.

That would be all the offense as both goalkeepers played outstanding. Rivier senior Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) made 12 saves as her team was outshot 18-1 on the afternoon. JWU's Shannon Yoder stopped the only shot she faced from Rivier freshman MaryKate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.).

The Raiders will return to the field in less than 24 hours as they host the University of Maine-Farmington in a non-conference contest at Raider Field. Game time is set for 1pm.
