Colon Sets Doubles Record as Baseball Splits with Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Rivier baseball traveled up to Granite State foe, Colby-Sawyer, for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader and won game one, 18-8, before dropping game two. In the victory, junior outfielder Luis Colon broke the single-season doubles record as he recorded his 14th and 15th doubles to snap the previous record, which was set in 2016.

The Raiders moved to 8-22 (4-10 GNAC) while the Chargers sit at 21-14 (10-6 GNAC).

Rivier will head north to face another New Hampshire rival in New England Col. on Sunday, with game one's first pitch set for noon from Laurie Cox Memorial Field.

After trailing 3-1 after three, Riv got its bats going in the fourth to produce a seven-run rally highlighted by a solo homer from Sebastien Reis and a Frank Gulezian RBI triple. In the fifth, Colton Colleran homered as part of a four-run frame to put the Raiders in control, 12-3.

Over the next two times up, the Chargers' offense would record five runs to make it a 12-8 game. Rivier responded by scoring six unanswered runs over the final three innings to close out any comeback bid and secure the victory.

Travis McKeen earned his second win after coming in to pitch 1.1 innings starting in the fifth. The sophomore righty struck out two, allowing just two runs to cross the plate. Kyle Hsu finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. Colleran knocked in three runs after going 3-for-6 from the dish. Frank Gulezian also recorded three RBI as he had a productive 3-for-5 day batting.

Riv was unable to keep up its offensive success from game one, dropping the rubber match in mercy-rule fashion. Frank Gulezian knocked in two runs on a triple in the top of the first before Sebastien Reis and Ben O'Connell registered RBI-base knocks in the fifth. Dean Adams took the loss on the bump in his third nod of the season.
