Baseball Falls by Two at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. — The Rivier baseball team fell to Nichols 7-5 in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Baseball Field.

The Raiders fell to 3-10 on the season while the Bison improved to 9-3 overall.

The Bison would collect the early lead, generated by a failed pickoff attempt giving Johnny Knox enough time to cross the plate.

It wasn't until the fourth inning when the Raiders' Owen Medlock singled to center pushing in two runs to give Rivier a 2-1 lead.

Nichols answered right back in the bottom of the fourth with a single to short, tying the game at 2-2.

In the fifth, Riv's Matt Labrecque singled to right center, scoring Luis Colon. As Labrecque stole second, he forced the throw down to give Ben O'Connell the chance to score to put the Raiders up by a pair at 4-2.

The Bison would tie the contest up again at 4-4 in the fifth.

Medlock tallied Rivier's final run of the game in the sixth from a passed ball, putting the Raiders up yet again.

Nichols went on to total three more runs in the final few innings as Jerome bunted in a run in the sixth and Karl Miller's sacrifice fly abd Kelvin Gutierrez RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to push the Bison ahead, 7-5.

Rivier used eight pitchers on the day with Dean Baker taking the loss.

The Raiders will take on the Lasers of Lasell on Saturday, March 23 in a GNAC battle at Frasier Field in Lynn, Mass. with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
