Baseball Drops Two Against Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. — The Rivier baseball team fell 9-4 in game one to Mass. Maritime and were shut down 3-0 by the Bucs in game two in non-conference play on the road at Hendy Field.

The Raiders are 3-9 on the season, yet to play a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup.

Up next the Raiders will travel to Dudley, Mass. on March 21 to face the Bison of Nichols Col. with a first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.

Mass. Maritime 9, Rivier 4

The Raiders tallied two quick runs in the top of the first generated by a double to left center from Luis Colon.

The Buccaneers tied the score at 2-2 in the second from a single and a sacrifice fly.

Singles from Colton Colleran and Seth Butler called for another two Rivier runs, reclaiming the lead 4-2 in the top of the third.

In the fourth, Mass. Maritime would grab three runs, two being unearned.

A Bucs ground rule double down the left field line forced in two runs, now leading the Raiders by three in the fifth.

A homer to center field sealed the win for Mass. Maritime in the sixth, with no runs scored in the seventh.

The Raiders totaled three stolen bases, credited to Dylan Aliberti, Luis Tejada, and Alex Gallicano.

Nolan Mederos got the start for Riv, throwing four innings with three strikeouts.

Mass. Maritime 3, Rivier 0

Three singles each generating an RBI apiece would do it for the Bucs in game two.

Mass. Maritime hit two singles up the middle in the bottom of the first, collecting the early lead 2-0.

The final run of the contest was an unearned run in the fourth on a Buccaneer single through the right side.

Tejada of Rivier launched a triple in the outing, but it was not enough to defeat the Bucs.

Raiders' Nate Bonacorsi was on the mound for just over four innings, totaling five strikeouts.
