Eagles upset Raiders in Women's Volleyball

(Nashua, NH) The Daniel Webster Eagles battled from a 2-1 deficit and won the final two sets as they completed the upset of Rivier College in a cross-town Women's Volleyball match up.

Rivier took the first set with a 25-19 score before dropping the second set in extras 27-25. After a third set win of 25-11, the Raiders looked to be in control until Daniel Webster battled back and stole game four with a 25-19 win. In a tough game five, it was the Eagles who came out on top with a 15-11 win to take the match, 3-2.

The Eagles were led by junior Chelsea Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) who had 11 kills. Amanda Wilson (Sr., Merrimack, Mass.) came up huge on the defensive end as she recorded a game high 27 digs while classmate Caitlyn DePierro (Billerica, Mass.) added 22 assists.

Recently named ECAC New England Player of the Week, junior Kenna Finlayson (Derry, NH) recorded her 12th double-double of 2011 as she had 14 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) was the leader in kills for Rivier with 15. Senior Emileigh Cenedella (Townsend, Mass.) contributed with a team high 15 digs while sophomore Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) chipped in with 13 digs. Senior Lauren Saccoccio (Dedham, MA) had a solid set up game with her 39 assists.

This marks the first time in the past 10 years that Daniel Webster has beaten the Raiders.

Rivier (11-13, 7-1 GNAC) will return to action this weekend as they travel down to Newton, Mass. for a GNAC tri-match with Lasell College and Saint Joseph College (CT). Daniel Webster (13-5, 3-0 NECC) will travel out to Bay Path College for a NECC match up on Saturday afternoon.
