Finlayson reaches 1,000 kills as Rivier tops Colby-Sawyer, 3-2

Nashua, NH - Rivier College (3-6 overall; 0-0 GNAC) defeated Colby Sawyer College 3-2 by the scores of 25-15, 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10 to win their third match of the season. The Raiders jumped out to an easy 1-0 lead in the match but couldn't sustain the momentum through sets two and three and found themselves down 2-1 after three sets. Rivier regrouped with some good adjustments and went on to battle back and take sets four and five to win their first 5 set victory in four attempts this season.

The Raiders were led by junior Kenna Finlayson (Derry, NH) who tallied a match high 21 kills while picking up 16 digs. The 5'9 outside hitter became the fastest Raider to reach 1000 kills in a career when she bombed in her 12th kill of the match in the third stanza. Senior Emileigh Cenedella (Townsend, MA) was solid for Rivier scooping up 18 digs and passing a perfect 22/22 on receive. Cenedella also chipped in with 4 ace serves and 3 kills. Middle hitters Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) and Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) stuffed 5 and 4 blocks respectively while senior Caitie Callahan (Dedham, MA) and Jess Amaral (E. Providence, RI) tallied 4 ace serves each. Junior pin hitter Meghan Farrell (Marlborough, MA) was steady with 6 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs, and 2 blocks.

Rivier will travel to Emerson College in Boston, MA for their first GNAC matches of the year on Saturday 9/17. RIV will take on Anna Maria College at noon followed by Emerson College at 2:00pm.
