Field Hockey blanks New England College, 2-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team earned their third win of the season as they shutout the visiting New England College Pilgrims, 2-0 at Raider Field in a matchup of former North Atlantic Conference foes. The win improves the Raiders' overall record to 3-11 while the Pilgrims now sit at 2-15.

Junior Chelsea Gomes (Epsom, N.H.) gave the Raiders an early 1-0 lead as she found the back of the net in the 20th minute for her fourth goal of the season. Gomes would then assist on the Raiders' second goal of the contest, this time by freshman Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.). Roth's fourth goal of the season came in the 63rd minute and essentially secured the victory for Rivier.

Freshman netminder Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) stopped both shots she faced for her first career shutout. New England College sophomore goaltender Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) made nine saves on eleven attempts for the Pilgrims.

The Raiders will enjoy a day off before hosting Western Connecticut State University for a non-conference contest at 7pm on Thursday evening. New England College will travel to New London, N.H. for a NAC battle with Colby-Sawyer when they return to action on Saturday afternoon.
